Machine quilting is often an economical way for the beginner or experienced quilter to have projects completed without having to stay up all night or make drastic changes to their already busy lives. It also helps eliminate those piles of "I'll get to it" quilts that quilters tend to accumulate. Read on for a basic description of a few of the options you have
Custom quilting can mean many things; a specific patern in each block,
circles, straight lines, stitch-in-the-ditch etc. These techniques are
usually used for heirloom quilts or important quilting projects.
Pantograph Pattern quilting uses a pattern that usually covers the quilt
edge to edge and repeats throughout the entire quilt. These patterns work well on a quilt that has repeating
blocks or block patterns (i.e. log cabin, rail fence). Pantograph patterns
also work well on a quilt meant for daily use but not neccessarily on an
heirloom quilt.
Small meander is a small pattern that looks like small, continuous puzzle
pieces. Small meandering usually covers the background of the quilt to
"puff" up or bring forward the areas that are not quilted with the meander.
Medium and large meander is an all-over, continuous puzzle pieces pattern
done free-hand on the machine similar to the small meander. Large and medium
meander helps the quilting to "fade" into the background and emphasizes the
block pattern on the top. The size of the meander is usually proportional to
the size of the block. (Large to large, medium to medium).
Basting for hand quilting acomplishes on the machine similar results that
would involve hours of pinning at home and eliminates the furniture
rearanging involved in basting a large project. The machine places a single
stitch in a grid pattern 6 to 8 inches apart using a neutral color thread.
When you recieve it back from use, its ready for your finest hand quilting.
If you'd like a complete quilt done by Anne, feel free to contact us to
discuss what you'd like to have. If you've found an unfininshed quilt or
have a project you'd like us to complete for you, drop an e-mail or call.
Anne also does "memory quilts" using outgrown or older clothing as the
basis for the quilt top. Almost any block and quilting pattern can be
adapted to incorporate clothing from a child who is growing fast or a loved
one who has passed from your life. If you'd like more information on memory
quilts, please call or write.
